I don’t really know what to say so far as our trip is really just beginning in many ways but we’re in the hunt and really trying to explore this option to the fullest!
When the plane first landed at La Guardia yesterday afternoon, I won’t lie. I was freaked out of my mind and just wanted to hop back on to a return flight to Atlanta and forget all about this possible move. The “I Love New York” landscaped into the grass on along the runway just didn’t seem to resonate any feelings. I figured we’d made a huge mistake. After picking up our rental car (yes, we decided to have this buffer which I’m thankful for!) and beginning our drive into the city, I saw what I later found out are welfare apartments (sigh of relief) and thought, “Oh Lord, if that is their idea of apartment living, then I want no part in it!”
Finding a New Yorker or two who loves their city and can take us by the hand, guiding us through the ins and outs of thriving here is what we (I) needed and our friend Toni, whom we’ve been staying with the last two nights, together with her son Tom, have offered endless help and advice. Last night we ambled our way around Brooklyn for at least two hours with Toni. One street is an Italian section and when you turn the corner, there is nothing but mid-eastern restaurants and shops. Small, independent coffee shops are everywhere and Rick quickly found himself a used book shop! It was a good way to work off dinner and feel we had seen parts of the city we might have otherwise missed.
Well, I’m borrowing Toni’s laptop right now and the battery is low so I better go…I have much to tell you about our church experience today which was very good…better than we could have imagined! We went to a Sovereign Grace Ministries church. It was small but refreshingly friendly. Our plans for tomorrow? Look at apartments hopefully. As for our overnight plans for the coming week? Right down the street from Toni and her husband Ken is a bed and breakfast which calls itself by the name “Sinners and Saints!” How did she come up with such a name? One can only guess but hopefully we will be saintly guests despite our many sins! Ugh, I’m tired and getting way too corny.
From the city that never sleeps, a big goodnight to you all!
P.S. Our little Micah…mommy and daddy miss you so much! We show everyone your picture and can’t help but make everyone aware that there is a very important third party of our family missing YOU!
