Earning Street Credibility

Finally, people on the street act like I know a thing or two about being a mother! It seems that now having two little ones, I am among what I observe may be a minority of mothers here in Park Slope, those of us who have two or more children…and stay home with those children to boot. Accordingly, I guess people figure if I can keep two children happy (or as much as possible anyways!) while out doing my thing, I must not be so clueless after all!;)

It just feels good to get smiles instead of constant reprimands as I go about my business or words of encouragement or praise instead of criticism. Now I must not fail to add that I come from a family of 5 kids and two of my siblings have 3 children a piece. I have a cousin who is only 27 and has 4 kids. I by no means feel as though 2 kids is a lot compared to many moms with more…but still…it is nice. It makes going out the door feel a little less stressful and I must say, I eat up the good will given me. It’s hard to find in this neck of the woods!

Or perhaps the smiles are due to the fact that I have a down right handsome little boy sitting in the stroller in front of me and my beautiful girl strapped snugly to me in her carrier, pink bonnet on her head, sleeping peacefully as we walk. Whatever the case, I am truly blessed!

Our happy boy, who though he may not be gracing the blog as much since the birth of his little sis but he is no less photographed then before! And might I add he is the best big brother around! Not much jealousy and lots of hugs and kisses as well as gleeful laughter for his “Lellie!”

Sus,I think the smiles have to do with the loveliness of the tableau: one lovely mother with two beautiful kids, out enjoying life… what’s not to smile at?

Hey Zanny,I absolutely love the picture of your little boy. He is so adorable. And it sounds as though he loves being a big brother. I am kind of nervous to see how people treat me here in Canada with a little one. My sister said people were not kind here to young moms. They assume the worst. I wont let their judgments spoil my love of being a mom though. And I can’t wait to fit in my wedding rings again.

Hi Susanna,I’m so glad to hear things are going well for all of you! Glad to know Micah is embracing his precious sister too. The only problem I’ve had with Josh and his new sister is that sometimes he wants to sit on her! Does Micah try to do that?
