Teach My Toddler

I’ve been having so much fun doing little formal learning times with Micah several times this week. He’s proving he’s quite the sponge. On top of knowing all his colors, the alphabet and counting confidently to 14, he’s mastering shapes, more numbers, letters, words, talking in short sentences, etc. I can already tell he is gaining confidence as he discovers his new found abilities and he seems to truly enjoy learning, especially when I am really conscious of following up with positive reinforcement. Praise brings a smile to his face. And as I learned in the past while working with autistic children who were obviously in need of varied approaches to learning, it is not simply about getting the answer right or knowing how to follow instructions perfectly. After all, he is starting from nothing. This is all brand new material to his little brain and I’m sure it must be a jumble of whirling activity at his age. As long as I know he is having fun, learning and gaining understanding…that alone is worthy of an enthusiastic response in my books!

I am always looking for new ways to teach Micah though and this activity jumped out at me today. With this “Teach My Toddler” system, a parent can teach their child numbers, letters, shapes and colors in 20 minute intervals each day. Meant for children 18 months to 4 years, it comes in this handy carry case. It has gotten good reviews. 20 minutes is all that is needed….more if you want of course but good to have a time frame in mind from the start. Quite frankly, I want to try it!:)

I went to Mastermind and checked for it. Apparently it’s sold out province-wide!! So, instead, I bought some awesome flashcards and a couple of pre-K workbooks. So far she loves them!!
