A Valentines Day Treat

We moved to New York, and my parents have suddenly gotten season tickets for every show that visits Atlanta. The last time Susanna and I went to a show was Les Miserables at least a year ago. So this weekend we decided to dump the kids on our friend Shannon (visiting from Toronto) and go to a show already!

I will admit I didn’t have high expectations for Mary Poppins – that movie from when I was a kid that I found kind of slow. But the show was great! Beautiful theater, crazy elaborate stage sets, and good songs. The best part was the extended tap routine during the “steppin time” song. The show also expands upon the movie with some scenes the playbill seems to suggest are from the many additional adventures in the book and not in the movie.

It was also a fun show as there were quite a few kids, so the atmosphere was relaxed. The kids went crazy over the evil nanny scenes and of course when Mary Poppins comes flying out over the stage and up to the 3rd floor balcony at the end of the show.

We still hope to see Wicked and Spamalot, so that’s next on the list
