The makings of a perfect in home date night: getting Micah and Ellie to bed by 7:02 pm, making dinner side by side with my husband while listening to Luciano Pavarotti, eating said dinner…every bite delicious, enjoying a dessert from a local farmer’s market and watching the movie foodies everywhere love, “Julie and Julia!” Amelia was up with us for the first half of the night but she was such a cheerful baby…we hardly noticed she was around!

Appetizer: Salad with beets, sliced apples and the most amazing goat cheese found at the farmer’s market
Main course: Linguini with shrimp, broccoli and mushrooms
Dessert: Blueberry/Peach loaf cake (and of course, a latte on the side for good measure:)
Movie
“Julie and Julia.” A film based on the real life story of a woman named Julie Powell who decided to cook through all the recipes in Julia Child’s cook book, “Mastering the Art of French Cooking” and wrote a blog about her progress. The movie takes a look at the lives of both Julie and Julia Child.
Cooking together. Rick and I need to do this more often…it was such a perfect way to spend an evening. We decided we need to do this at least once a month, if not more!

My Aunt Susan and Uncle George, both gourmet food lovers, gave us “The Joy of Cooking” for a wedding gift. Inside, they wrote this: “To Susanna and Rick, We wish you much happiness in your life together. Spending time cooking together will bring much joy!”
