Bunk beds and Room Sharing

After much deliberating, we bought Micah and Ellie bunk beds and put them in the same room for the first time Friday night (what was Micah’s own room)!  This was a huge change for Ellie on many fronts.  Not only was it the first time she had ever slept in a “big girl” bed, but it was also the first time she had slept in Micah’s room.  The verdict so far?  Hands down, they love sharing a room.   I already think it is bringing them closer and they seem to be comforted by the presence of the other!

Here is the lowdown of the first three nights:

Night 1:  Went down easily and were quiet until approximately 2am when Ellie woke up after throwing up and was hysterical.  Micah woke up as well and then after cleaning Ellie up and getting her changed, we put them both down again and they were fine until about 5:30 am.  Ellie was fine the next day…perhaps it was the Papa John’s pizza we had Friday night?

Night 2:  Went down easily and slept again until about 2am and then Ellie woke up scared and they both got all upset.  Ellie ended up in bed with Rick and I the rest of the night.  Ugh…we were ready to throw in the towel on them sharing a room!;)

Night 3:   They slept through the entire night last night with out a fuss!  We are rejoicing and now that Amelia is sleeping through the night, things are looking way up!  But, we’ll count on many nights of them waking as well!  That’s life!

Glad it’s working out for you. And also glad to hear Amelia is still sleeping through the night!

  2. Glad things are working out well! Loved the pictures!

  3. Oh, I hope they sleep! I think once they get in routine, you’ll find this to work really well. Praying for lots of rest- I know after months of breast-feeding, you need it!

The bunk beds look great. I think white is a lot more cheerful than the hardwood ones that we had you guys in when you were kids.

Thanks for the great photo of Micah which arrived in today’s mail. He almost looks like a young version of Tom Yagoda.

Dad, I always have such great memories of sleeping in our bunkbed growing up so I hope our kids will have those same memories as well!
